One Step Cleanser

One Step is extraordinarily popular among home beer- and wine-makers.  One Step uses active oxygen to clean beer- and wine-making equipment, and because it does not contain alkaline compounds and other harmful additives, it is both safe for the environment, and it does not need to be rinsed after use.

When dissolved in water, One Step works by releasing oxygen from within a mineral crystal, and this oxygen then forms hydrogen peroxide, which is effective for both disinfecting and sanitizing.  Once the hydrogen peroxide has worked to completion, it degrades into its base components of oxygen and water, which only leaves behind the naturally occurring mineral crystals that are typically found in drinking water.

A great advantage of One Step is its strength – only 1 tablespoon of One Step per gallon of water is the proper concentration, so with the no rinse usage, insignificant residue remains on the brewing equipment.  In addition, the minerals that remain are identical to minerals typically found in drinking water.  So you can sleep easier and drink more beer, wine, cider, mead or what have you, which also helps you sleep easier.

A common question when using One Step is – can One Step be used as a sanitizer?  One Step is not a certified sanitizer with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Certification by the EPA is expensive, time-consuming, and on-going.  While the EPA requires professional breweries, wineries and such to use registered sanitizers, the home beer- and wine-making community has been using One Step for both cleaning and effective sanitizing for decades.  So you can once again rest assured (and drink more beer and wine) that your cleaning and sanitizing needs will be met.

Add 1 tablespoon of One Step per gallon of cold or warm water.  Stir to dissolve.  A minimum contact time of 1 minute (either rinsing or soaking) is recommended, but longer contact times are safe and effective, especially for maximizing sanitization.  For soiled or dirty equipment, soaking equipment overnight is helpful.
