Unlike most oats used in brewing, which are unmalted adjuncts, Simpsons Golden Naked Oats are a huskless crystal malt. This special malt offers a delicate, nutty flavor and a mild, grainy sweetness. It gives the wort a light golden color while enhancing the body and contributing to a smooth mouthfeel. It also helps create a creamy, robust head. And like regular crystal malts, Simpsons Golden Naked Oats work well for many beer beer styles, including American Pale Ales, IPAs, nut brown ales, amber ales and stouts. In other words, they’re highly versatile.

Simpsons Golden Naked oats are an oat-based crystal malt.  Crystal malts undergo gentle warm steep during the malting process. This steep starts the enzymatic conversion of starches into fermentable sugars and caramelizes some sugars as the malt reaches its final color. This process eliminates the need to mash crystal malt and ensures that the malt’s unfermentable sugars will survive fermentation, adding sweetness to the beer.
